Bitter Pill
Favorite new oxymoron: "Jagged Little Pill, acoustic remix." That's right, apparently Alanis Morissette is coming out with a 10th anniversary re-recording of her paean to the crazy single girl.
But one would think the formerly honest songstress Morissette would at least have the decency to rename this warmer and fuzzier version of "Jagged" something more appropriate like, "Married, Edgeless and Ready to Pop Out Puppies."

I see your point--I mean, sure, Frida Kahlo did endless self-portraits and they were all different and unique works of art--but the material of JLP, specifically, seemed particular to that period in her life. What I liked about the album was that it was so raw and fresh. The sound was that of a woman who'd just opened a vein. And each song had power, I think, because there was no restraint, nothing like perspective or distance to tamp its intensity. 10 years later can the same singer still recite those devastating lyrics with the same impact? I tend to doubt it.
